What is the job?

Reporting to the Can Plant Production Manager, the Lead Front-End Operator will oversee operations of the Upender, Unwinder, Cupping press, Body Maker, Trimmer, and Heat Set Oven (new process) as well as helping guide and supervise the Front-End Operator.

What will you do?

  • Follow all safety standards to provide a safe work environment for all team members
  • Work hand in hand with plant manager, front-end operator, and production team
  • Perform maintenance on cupper, bodymakers, trimmers, and conveyance and keep clean workspace
  • Train team members on machine operation
  • Monitor consumables to include, chemicals and lubes, filters, and all other related items
  • Ensures coil usage is documented and accurate
  • Helps with the development of SOP’s and best practices
  • Deliver high-quality product to the internal and external customer
  • Complete operation of the cupper and body maker process to include changeovers, coil changes, and bodymaker/trimmer uptime
  • Maintain and monitor TCU units and heat set oven.
  • Initiate, review, and follow all standard operating procedures (SOPs) for areas of responsibility.
  • Recognize waste streams and minimize waste generation, through prudent use of materials, proper disposal, and segregation.
  • Understand and practice proper accumulation and storage requirements for wastes.
  • Complies with environmental regulations when using, dispensing, or handling hazardous and non-hazardous materials and wastes.
  • Comply with established job safety practices, policies and procedures as specified in plant directives for the safe performance of the work assignment.
  • Operate within FDA regulations
  • Performs duties as required to ensure compliance with the plant's quality standards.
  • Performs various manual or mechanical production functions by operating, adjusting, and repairing the production equipment to meet customer specifications.

  • Working knowledge of the following areas: nomenclature of all assigned equipment and products, and plant quality standards.
  • Must be able to handle sensitive related and proprietary information in a confidential manner.
  • Maintain awareness and comply with hazardous waste management and other environmental management requirements in the workplace by attending scheduled training sessions.

What is Required?

  • Must have experience working in a can plant for 2 years minimum, this is REQUIRED for this role - no exceptions
  • Possesses an interest in and a high aptitude for mechanics, with the ability to use hand and power tools.
  • Basic computer skills, such as communication tools, Excel, Outlook, etc.
  • Ability to operate a forklift or aerial scissors lift.
  • Skills to use precision measuring instruments and identify product defects.
  • Capacity to perform basic mathematical calculations.
  • Ability to effectively train personnel.
  • Must wear appropriate safety glasses, hearing protection, clothing, and footwear in appropriate areas and follow safety practices.
  • This position is exposed to occupational hazards, including but not limited to, high noise levels, physical obstacles, exposure to chemicals, etc.
  • Capable of working in confined areas.
